In American sports, personal trophies come in the form of rings, with all the sports leagues awarding them to the champions, including the NFL, NBA, WNBA, and NHL. The NFL’s final event is the Super Bowl, and it’s on every American sports fan’s calendar. The beautiful rings given to the champions are on everyone’s mind, and people have often considered how much would one cost.

The Cost of Super Bowl Rings

The last Super Bowl pitted the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Fransisco 49ers, with the Chiefs taking the trophy home. Both teams that play at the Super Bowl get rings, and the tradition is that the people from the losing team never wear theirs. The cost of one such ring can vary because they are not exactly meant to be sold, and the rings differ every year. They are customized to the teams and the year of the game, with personal details being included for every player.

The end cost of each ring is a big secret that both the NFL and franchises guard very seriously. To make the rings, the NFL gives teams around $5,000 to $7,000 per ring, and after that, teams add more money to make truly special Super Bowl rings. Experts make estimates that show a ring could cost anywhere between $30,000 and $50,000.

Super Bowl Rings Are Rarely Sold

The initial cost of Super Bowl rings is one thing, but once they are given away, their worth changes depending on various factors, like who’s ring is it and when was it awarded. For example, two 1970s winners’ rings from the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl sold for more than $69,000 in 2008.

On the other hand, the 1990 winners’ ring of the two-time Super Bowl winner Lawrence Taylor was sold for $169,000 in 2012. The record holder for Super Bowl rings is Tom Brady with his seven. So, if he were to sell one of those, experts say their value could be $1 million each.
