Any kind of breakup is tough, whether you’re a part of the former couple or not. For example, when bands break up, it may not affect their fans’ personal lives per se, but it does mean that we won’t be able to enjoy their music anymore. These four band breakups are perfect examples of a split that we may not have been a part of, but it hurts all the same.

The Beatles

John Lennon took the lyrics from “All You Need Is Love” a little too seriously and decided to trade in his successful music career for the woman of his dreams. He began to make music with Yoko Ono instead of the Beatles, but their band never really took off in any meaningful way, leaving fans Beatle-less.

Oasis

Like all brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher fought quite a bit. However, when you add millions of dollars and an alarming amount of fame to typical sibling rivalry, you get the train wreck that was Oasis. After nearly two decades of mixing family drama with work, Noel and Liam finally decided to call it quits.

Spice Girls

“Friendship never ends,” according to the Spice Girls, but bands do end, as did theirs. It was Geri Halliwell who called it quits, which many people believe was a decision based on disagreements within the band and exhausting tour schedules. Either way, the Spice Girls have since temporarily reunited, albeit without Posh Spice, proving that their friendship is still going strong!

One Direction

The members of One Direction never actually chose to work together. Rather, the band was created by the judges of The X Factor. Zayn Malik was the one who cut ties because he wanted to be “a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.” He then pursued his privacy by launching a solo music career and embarking on a very public relationship with supermodel Gigi Hadid. Go figure.
