Jonathan Scott, the Property Brothers star, knew he wanted to pop the question to Zooey Deschanel long before August 2023. He had already picked out the perfect engagement ring, a beautiful silver band adorned with colorful flower-shaped stones. However, there was a little hiccup in his otherwise well-prepared plan. In an interview, Scott admitted that he made a common mistake– he got the wrong ring size!

Jonathan Scott Planned His Proposal

Jonathan Scott confessed that he measured the ring badly. Even though the ring didn’t fit perfectly, Scott had put a lot of thought into choosing the right accessory. He paid close attention to Deschanel’s taste in jewelry. When she mentioned her fondness for the floral rock a year before the proposal, he seized the opportunity to make it hers. According to him, he immediately screen-grabbed it and held onto it for a long time. Apparently, he managed to get that one.

Two and a half months before he proposed, Jonathan Scott sought her parents’ permission. They welcomed him with open arms, saying they already considered him family. The proposal took place at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, one of Jonathan Scott’s favorite spots in his hometown. He made sure they were the last group at the landmark.

Zooey Said Yes Without Hesitation

Deschanel was caught by surprise when the bagpipe band stopped performing, and a guitarist took center stage. She recalled how she thought something was happening when the guitarist began playing “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young, a special song for the couple.

Deschanel’s children, Elsie and Charlie, played a significant role in the proposal. They unveiled a banner that read, “Zooey, will you marry me?” Her answer, of course, was a resounding yes. What made the moment even more special was that even though Elsie and Charlie were part of the plan, they were as surprised as Deschanel. Scott had kept them in the dark, and Deschanel explained that was a good decision because they would have told her immediately.
